One of the most important Mayan cities of the Classic period, located in the mountains of the north of the state in what is now known as the Lakamhá kingdom. One of the greatest expressions of the power and splendor of the Mayan culture. This archaeological zone surrounded by jungle and mountains offers beautiful landscapes contrasting with impressive pyramids and palaces, immersed in a world of awe and mysticism.
Palenque is about six hours driving from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, four and a half from Campeche and a couple of hours from Villahermosa. The climate in Palenque is hot and humid almost all year round; its average temperature is 26°C (79°F), although it can reach almost 40°C (104°F) in spring.
The nearby Magical Town of Palenque, just 6 kilometers from the archaeological zone, offers all the services you will need for your adventures in the area, such as lodging and restaurants. Here you will meet the indigenous Lacandon communities that have kept the history and mysticism of the Mayan civilization alive. In addition, the area surrounding Palenque hides countless opportunities for nature excursions, visiting jungles, rivers and waterfalls.
