Sian Kaan Private Adventure Tour

from US $149

A day tour into the earthly paradise that is the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Kaan, a magical place teeming with life, where the beauty of nature shines at its brightest far from the influence of human development.

The name Sian Ka’an means Heaven’s Gate in Mayan, and these gates are located just a couple kilometers south of Tulum’s hotel zone. The reserve spans more than 500,000 hectares of jungles, mangroves, lagoons, wetlands, and 120,000 hectares of the Caribbean sea, including a portion of the Mesoamerican Reef barrier. Established as a reserve in 1981 by decree of the state’s government, Sian Ka’an serves as a natural refuge, representative of the natural life of the Yucatan Peninsula due to it being the home of many of the region’s emblematic species of flora and fauna as well as a sample of all the biomes one could find in the peninsula; the success of this project saw the site declared a Unesco World heritage site in 1987.

Our visit here starts with a trek to Muyil, a Mayan archaeological site located deep in the reserva, and the jungle that surrounds the city. After this we will delve deeper into the canals and lagoons of the reserve by boat while learning about the different ecosystems we will cross. Here you will also have the opportunity to jump into the water and let the stream carry you for a while while you enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. Afterwards, we will have lunch in Tulum before our last stop of the day: swimming in a cenote to rinse off and cool down before returning to your hotel.
